BUNI YADI, Yobe, Nigeria – Not less than 190 policemen sent for training at the Nigerian Army Special Forces Training School in Buni Yadi, Yobe State in preparation for deployment against Boko Haram have run away for dear life.
The officers, we gathered did not submit arms and ammunitions in their possession when they fled. According to reports, Force Headquarters, Abuja has in reaction to the development ordered their arrest and prosecution.
The fleeing officers, who are among the 2,000 additional police officers drafted by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris have now been declared wanted. The officers were deployed to complement efforts of the military against rampaging terrorists the North-east.
The Boko Haram set has in recent times gained confidence after killing dozens of military officers in addition to policemen who they now see as easy targets.
At least 1000 policemen have so far been lost to the Boko Haram insurgents, with about 100 lost in 90 days, according to reports
