OJODU, Lagos – At least 17 people were feared killed  and several others injured at Grammar School  Bus stop, Ojodu, Lagos when a truck rammed into a group of students returning from school  at Ogunnusi Road, Ojodu, Lagos.

Ogunnusi Road is known for the Babs Fafunwa Millennium Secondary School building, which houses students of Omole and Ojodu Secondary school.  Primary schools also occupy the northern part of the compound.

It is not clear which of the schools the affected students belong as at press time.

Commenting on the incident, the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA said the agency received a distress call at 2:56PM about a truck accident at Ogunnusi Road,  Grammar School Bus Stop, Ojodu Berger.

Director General of the agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osayintolu said information gathered from the police and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority revealed that an unidentified truck lost control and rammed into students returning from school.

“The incident lead to severe injuries to some victims, others were discovered dead”, he said.

Although the LASEMA boss refused to disclose the total number of deaths, he said the unfortunate incident provoked some bystanders into taking laws into their hands by attempting to lynch NPF, LASTMA officials and other first responders at the scene destroying vehicles and other properties.

He said the attack resulted in the emergency team retreating since the scene was insecure.
