LONDON, UK – A MET POLICE sergeant who sickeningly trivialised a rape allegation by joking about an ‘Oompa Loompa’ suspect has been FIRED without notice.
Sgt Clayton Robinson, of Met Detention, was dismissed yesterday after an accelerated misconduct hearing.
He was caught on camera by a BBC Panorama investigation questioning the victim-survivor’s account and mocking her ability to recall details of the horrifying attack.
The shocking footage, broadcast on October 1, showed Robinson joking that the suspect could be someone “orange with green hair” before he disgustingly burst into an ‘Oompa Loompa’ song.
’Appalling’ Behaviour
Robinson was found to have breached professional standards for discreditable conduct, and equality and diversity.
The decision was swiftly welcomed by Commander Simon Messinger, Professionalism, who branded the sergeant’s behaviour “appalling”.
”Sgt Robinson’s behaviour was appalling, questioning and mocking a victim-survivor of rape, and it is absolutely right he is dismissed and no longer part of our organisation,” Messinger said.
The disgraced officer will now be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing, meaning he can never re-join the force or work in any related body again.
Fifth Officer Axed
Robinson is the fifth officer to lose their job following the revelations of appalling misconduct at Charing Cross police station.
Commander Messinger added: “The incontrovertible evidence has allowed us to rid the Met of these officers who have corrupted the integrity of our organisation at the very earlier opportunity. Further hearings are scheduled.”
Three more officers face accelerated misconduct hearings in the coming weeks:
PC Sean Park on Friday, November 7.
Sgt Lawrence Hume on Friday, November 7.
Former PC Brian Sharkey on Friday, November 28. A hearing for a final officer, Sgt Steve Stamp, is still to be scheduled.
