BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT I MHP Arena, Stuttgart

It was a heist so audacious it would have made Danny Ocean blush. For 90 minutes at the MHP Arena, Borussia Dortmund looked like a side that had forgotten their lines, but in a breathless three-minute cameo at the death, two of their brightest stars rewrote the script to leave VfB Stuttgart floored.

The scoreline says 2-0 to the visitors, but for much of this Bundesliga clash, Niko Kovac’s men were hanging on by their fingernails. That was until Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt stepped out of the shadows to deliver a masterclass in clinical finishing.

The Star-Studded Surge
Stuttgart had dominated the proceedings, with Chris Führich and Deniz Undav causing nightmares for the Dortmund backline. But great teams are defined by their stars, and in Gregor Kobel, Dortmund had a wall. The Swiss stopper produced a string of world-class saves to keep the scores level, setting the stage for the dramatic finale.

As the clock ticked into the 94th minute, the game seemed destined for a stalemate. Enter Karim Adeyemi. The lightning-fast forward, who has often been the spark in Dortmund’s engine room this season, latched onto a loose clearance. With the composure of a veteran, he shifted the ball onto his right foot and lashed a strike into the bottom corner, silencing the home crowd.

Brandt’s Final Flourish
Stuttgart, visibly rattled, threw everyone forward in a desperate bid to salvage a point. Instead, they were caught in a classic counter-attack led by the creative genius of Julian Brandt.

In the 96th minute, Brandt—who had been pulling the strings since his introduction—linked up beautifully with Fabio Silva. When Silva’s cross arrived from the left, Brandt controlled it with a touch of pure velvet before rifling it past the helpless Alexander Nübel.

The Verdict
The victory keeps Dortmund firmly in the hunt, sitting nine points behind leaders Bayern Munich with six games to go. For Stuttgart, it was a bitter pill to swallow after a dominant display, but they were ultimately undone by the sheer individual brilliance of Dortmund’s elite.

”We stayed patient,” a jubilant Brandt said after the final whistle. “In games like this, you need your big players to stand up. Karim was electric today, and we knew if we got one chance, we had to take it.”

VfB Stuttgart: Nübel, Vagnoman, Anton, Chabot, Mittelstädt, Karazor, Stiller, Millot, Führich, Undav, Guirassy.
