IKEJA, Lagos, Nigeria – A Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has granted bail to two women, Mercy Samson and Stella Madueke who allegedly kidnapped a 3-year-old baby from Mountain of Fire and sold it for N650,000.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million and two sureties in like sum.

“I hereby grant the defendants bail in the sum of N5 million each, two sureties in like sum. Sureties must show proof of payment of tax in the last three years and one must own a landed property in Lagos state

The defendants were arraigned on a five count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping and obtaining money by false pretense.

According to the police prosecutor, Joseph Eboseremen, the two women kidnapped the 3-year-old baby at Mountain of Fire and Prayer Ministries Church Agege Area.

Eboseremen said that the defendants kidnapped one ‘f’ three years old during a church service and sold her to one Chikodi for the sum of N650, 000.

The prosecutor went further to state that the two women fraudulently obtained the sum of N700, 000 from one Magus Nwaigbo on the pretence of adopting a baby from an orphanage.

Reacting to the ruling of the honorable court granting of bail, defence counsel A.C Abaja welcomed the ruling of the court . Justice Taiwo adjourned the matter to 21th of April for trial.
