ABUJA – The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a stern warning to owners of event centres, hotels, and public buildings within the nation’s capital to desist from leasing out their facilities to illegal organizations.

The administration cautioned that land allocations in the FCT are strictly granted for lawful purposes, declaring that the title documents of any property found hosting unauthorized or illegal gatherings will be summarily revoked.

This directive was contained in a press statement issued on Friday, May 29, 2026, by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

According to Olayinka, the move has become imperative to bolster the security of lives and property within the FCT, as well as to complement the ongoing efforts of various security agencies.

The statement read in part:
”In view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and properties in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies in this regard, usage of Event Centres, Hotels and other public buildings will now be closely monitored.

”This is aimed at ensuring that they are not used by illegal organizations for gatherings capable of disrupting the peace of the nation’s capital.”

The FCTA urged facility owners to conduct thorough background checks on the legality of organizations seeking to use their premises, as well as the nature of their events, before granting approval.

With the current political season underway, the administration placed specific emphasis on political gatherings, ordering hoteliers and event managers to verify the leadership status of political parties before renting out spaces.

”Owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognised leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept,” Olayinka stated.

The FCTA reiterated that compliance is non-negotiable, warning that any property owner who flouts the directive will face the ultimate penalty of land title revocation.
