WIKE HALTS ATTEMPT TO RAISE SCHOOL FEES IN RIVERS UNIVERSITY

PORT HARCOURT, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Mr. Nyesom Wike has halted attempt by authority of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology to increase tuition across board in the university.




Wike who made the revelation at the foundation laying ceremony of the administrative secretariat of the National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS) said he has told the Vice Chancellor of the University not to go ahead with what he is planning.

“I called the VC, and I said you are looking for more money, you will not get the money you are looking for”, he said, adding that the VC told him he was just toying with the idea and told him point blank that no more discussion on the issue.

“I told him, increase fee and lose your job and he said we are just discussing it and I said don’t discuss it”, he said, adding that he has paid 50 percent of the money to the contractor involved in the construction of the secretariat with a mandate to complete the structure in three months.

Also speaking, National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) Comrade Patrick Ogbuehi thanked Wike for the investment in NANS, stressing that the governor has done what others , who even used NANS to rise to prominence failed to do.
