March 5, 2015 – Leader of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Nwazurike has said that Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega must go due to strong allegations of partisanship levelled against him.
Nwazurike who was speaking in Owerri, Imo State State, Nigeria said Jega was alleged to have held a meeting with one of the governors of the opposition in Dubai, stressing that till date, Jega has not refuted any of the allegations.
He said that it is unfortunate that despite all these allegations, Jega has refused to step aside.
“We believe that Jega has compromised, the only option left for him is to quit”, the MASSOB leader said, adding that he is not the only person that can conduct elections in Nigeria.
According to him, other Resident Electoral Commissioners (REC)S are capable of conducting the elections in the absence of Jega.
“It is on record that former INEC chairmen, Professor Gbuobadia and Maurice Iwu all went on terminal leave three months before the expiration of their tenure”, he said adding that in the case of Jega people are now calling for something different.
He said those who will benefit from Jega are already threatening fire and brimstone if Jega is sacked. He however insisted that Jega cannot conduct the elections by force.
