What Seun Kuti stands to lose for slapping, shoving a policeman
LAGOS, Nigeria – Up till last night, heir of the famous Anikulapo Kuti family, Seun Kuti was still boasting on Instagram from his hideout that he slapped the policeman and that he slapped many of them in the past. He would probably slap more in the future.
The young musician who is obviously oblivious of the fact that he has chosen the wrong path seems to forget that there is so much at stake that he will lose for losing his cool in that viral video, and pushing aside appeal to exercise caution.
Seun Kuti stands to lose millions if the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba goes ahead with the threat to prosecute this musician who recently acquired a Mercedes Benz SUV.
It is just about 8 days to his much publicized Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 tour of Europe. Seun Kuti and the Egypt 80 band are billed to perform in Copenhagen, Denmark on May 23, 2023, a development that should have subjected the youngster to some level of sanity.
But he allowed his ego to lead him, and he is on the path to self-destruction.
Specifically, he will appear at Pumpehuset, and tickets are already on sale. Even if Seun Kuti is released to Femi Falana, SAN on self recognition, that is if he choses to appear at the police headquarters today, the case will still continue and he is likely to be prevented from making the trip, since his international passport will be deposited as part of condition for his bail.
That means, Seun Kuti will be subjected to reputation scam in international music concert deal besides having to refund money already paid in purchase of tickets.
The best bet is for Seun Kuti to have left the country, which seems very likely and to submit himself to the police after the Copenhagen show since he is unlikely to be forgiven to deter other musicians who are watching from taking that route.
