ONITSHA, Anambra, Nigeria –  A tanker explosion has claimed the life of a   welder  simply indentified as Richard in his workshop at New Road Toll gate, Ogbunike,Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Richard, we gathered was doing some welding work on top of an empty Fuel Mack Truck when it suddenly exploded and threw him very far away from the top of tanker.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Anambra State command SP Haruna Mohammed  said that “on the 28/11/2020 at about 2:30pm there was a heavy explosion at a mechanic workshop, new road toll gate, Ogbunike”

According to him, the incident took place when a welder named Richard ‘m’ surname yet unknown was on top of an empty Fuel Mack Truck with REG number XA-740-CAL trying to weld the upper  compartment.

He said the tanker  suddenly exploded and threw away  the welder two hundred metres away from the truck leaving him unconscious. Mohammed also said Police operatives attached to Ogbunike Division Immediately visited the scene and rushed the victim to Iyienu Hospital for treatment where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

He also said ,the corpse was photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for preservation while investigation is ongoing to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident please.
