Lagos State Government said today that it did not deport 67 people to Onitsha as alleged, but that those involved went back to the east voluntarily after they were rehabilitated.

Briefing reporters after a meeting of Lagos State Security Council Commissioner of Police Mr. Umaru Manko said the state government only rehabilitated and resettled the people.

“What happened was that the state did rehabilitation and resettlement of the citizens from other states that came into the state and turned into destitute.  After that, they indicated their interest of going back to their home town to be resettled. That was what happened. There wasn’t any deportation”.

Harping on the general security in the state, he reassured the residents of the state that the security of the state is perfect, adding that the security operatives are on top of their jobs.

” The residents should go about their lawful businesses. Of course, everyone knows that the Eid-il-fitri is around the corner, we done everything necessary to ensure that the festival comes and go peacefully. All the security agencies in the state have done their home work to ensure that residents of Lagos have free festival”.

Manko who read riot act to cart pushers in the state , said the state government will henceforth prosecute any cart pusher found carrying out the trade of refuse dumping in the state.

“We all know that the Lagos state traffic law 2012 outlawed their service from the high way. We are going to start enforcing that law from today. Those who aren’t expected to push cart on the highway particularly on the bridge.

“Our officers would be mandated to start arresting the cart pushers. And this is information for them to keep off the street of Lagos state”.
