President of Ukraine, VOLODYMYR ZELENSKY has issued a chilling “red alert” warning that 10,000 North Korean soldiers are being turned into elite killing machines on Russian soil.
The Ukrainian President claims the hermit kingdom’s troops have now “learned how to defend” against Kyiv’s high-tech missiles and kamikaze drones—knowledge they could take back to the Korean peninsula or use to spearhead a fresh Putin offensive.
In a blunt address, Zelensky warned that the presence of Kim Jong Un’s infantry in the Kursk region represents a terrifying escalation in the global conflict.
He didn’t mince words about the tactical threat, stating:
“It is extremely dangerous. What will they do with this knowledge?”
Kyiv officials fear the troops are essentially being used as “human sponges,” soaking up Western-backed tactics and learning how to counter the very weapons London and Washington have supplied to Ukraine.
While the military threat is real, some geopolitical analysts are reading between the lines of Zelensky’s urgent rhetoric. Critics and skeptics have been quick to translate the President’s alarm as a renewed plea for Western funding.
With the U.S. political landscape shifting and European stockpiles dwindling, the “North Korean bogeyman” is a powerful lever to pull when asking for:
Increased military aid to counter the “internationalization” of the war.
Direct financial support to keep the Ukrainian frontline from buckling under the sheer weight of Russian—and now North Korean—manpower.
The arrival of North Korean boots on the ground marks a desperate move by Vladimir Putin.
Facing staggering casualty rates—estimated at over 600,000 killed or wounded—the Kremlin has turned to Pyongyang to fill the gaps without triggering another unpopular draft in Moscow.
The Deal: In exchange for troops, Russia is believed to be providing North Korea with food, fuel, and—most worryingly—missile technology.
The Logistics: Intelligence reports suggest the 10,000 troops are being trained in the Russian Far East before being ferried to the front lines in “civilian trucks” to avoid detection.
The UK Response: Downing Street has previously condemned the alliance, calling it a “sign of Putin’s desperation.”
As Zelensky warns of a “world war” scenario, the pressure is back on the West to decide: do they dig deeper into their pockets, or watch as Putin’s “Foreign Legion” gains the upper hand?
