MICHIGAN – A Michigan pensioner who shares the exact same surname and initials as US Vice President JD Vance has been jailed for two years after threatening to assassinate the politician—and President Donald Trump—in a series of furious online rants.
James Donald Vance, Jr., 67, was hauled before a judge on Monday after admitting to posting chilling death threats under the bizarre social media alias ‘Diaperjdv’.
The incredible name coincidence highlights the madness of the case, as the convicted man plots to kill a public figure who is effectively his political namesake.
Vance, who hails from Grand Rapids, was sentenced in federal court for posting specific threats on the social media platform Bluesky back in March and April 2025.
The court heard how the 67-year-old launched a verbal attack on four separate people, including the Vice President, President Trump, and one of the President’s children.
In one shocking post, Vance Junior raged that if the US leaders ever visited his city, “they will leave it in a body bag.”
He chillingly added that he was prepared for the consequences, boasting he “will either be shot by a secret service sniper or spend the rest of my life in prison. I’ve only got about 10 years of life left anyway so I don’t f***ing care either way.”
The pensioner later pleaded guilty to two serious felony offenses: threatening to kill or injure the President and Vice President, and making interstate threatening communications.
US Attorney Timothy VerHey blasted Vance’s actions, stating: “When Vance said he planned to kill our President and the Vice President simply because he disagreed with them, he crossed a line we all understand and so had to be punished.”
Despite facing a maximum of five years behind bars, the 67-year-old was handed a two-year prison sentence.
The conviction is the second such case in a month in the Western District of Michigan, underscoring the grim rise in political tensions gripping the States
