Vice President JD VANCE has lashed out at a “lawless” Supreme Court after it constitutionally struck down Donald Trump’s flagship global tariffs.

The Vice President vowed that the White House would bypass the ruling, insisting the President has “a wide range of other powers” to keep his trade war alive.

The drama erupted on Friday when the U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) ruled 6-3 that Trump had exceeded his legal authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to bypass Congress and slap massive taxes on foreign imports.

The political firestorm moved to social media when Vance posted a stinging rebuke of the justices, accusing them of ignoring the law.

“This is lawlessness from the Court, plain and simple,” Vance wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He argued that Congress had intended for the President to “regulate imports” and that the ruling would only hurt American industry.

However, the Vice President was immediately hit with an embarrassing “Community Note.” The crowdsourced fact-check pointed out that the Court’s ruling actually “upholds the Constitution,” specifically Article I, which gives Congress—not the President—the sole power to levy taxes and tariffs.

‘We Have Alternatives’
Despite the legal defeat, a defiant Vance told followers: “President Trump has a wide range of other tariff powers and he will use them.”

The administration is already looking at alternative legal loopholes, such as Section 232 (national security) or Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, to keep the border taxes in place. Trump himself echoed the sentiment from the White House, calling the ruling “deeply disappointing” and “unpatriotic.”

The Ruling: On February 20, 2026, the Supreme Court struck down the “Liberation Day” tariffs.

Chief Justice John Roberts led the 6-3 majority, stating that the President cannot use emergency “security” powers to impose permanent taxes without a vote from Congress.

The ruling could force the U.S. government to refund over $160 billion already collected from importers.

The ‘Reciprocal’ Dream: Trump’s policy had slapped a blanket 10% tariff on almost all global goods, with rates as high as 145% for China and 35% for Canada.

The White House is expected to sign a fresh Executive Order today using different legal justifications to keep the tariffs from disappearing entirely.
