July 28,2014 – Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji has called on Muslims to imbibe the lesson of Ramadan as a way of promoting peaceful co-existence among the populace, saying “it is an opportunity to pray for the safe return of abducted Chibok girls.”

Ikuforiji who made the call shortly after observing his Eid-l-fitri prayer at Oregun Central Mosque, Oregun Lagos, said the celebration of the Eid festival should be avenue to inculcate the lessons of Ramadan in individual’s life.

“The lessons from Ramadan were varied: you were taught to persevere, you were taught to refrain from anything that is ungodly; you were taught to be tolerant and remain peaceful. Above all you should allow those teachings to follow you for the rest of the year.

“In the last 30 days we have been sober; we have reflected on the teaching of God; we have imbibed the teaching of the holy prophet Muhammad. So all and sundry should remain with those teachings we have imbibed in the month of Ramadan.

While commenting on the Chibok girls that were abducted on April 15 by the outlawed Boko Haram sect, Ikuforiji said, “It is sad and that has left a very big dent on our image as a country. We have prayed that these girls of ours are returned safely.”

Also, in his goodwill message for the celebration of the festival which was signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Adebayo, Ikuforiji, enjoined all muslims to hold firmly to the lessons learnt during the holy month.

He maintained that “all muslims and non-muslims alike should intensify their prayers for the safe rescue of the abducted Chibok school girls and their quick reunion with their families.”

Ikuforiji declared: “As we muslims just emerged from the mandatory 30-day Ramadan fast, I call on all muslims to intensify our prayers for the quick rescue of the abducted Chibok school girls, who have been in the custody of the Boko Haram insurgents for over 100 days now.

“I have no doubt that with our persistent prayers, combined with the government doing the needful, there is no doubt that the seized Chibok school girls will be be rescued soonest., and an end found to the menace of the Boko Haram insurgency,” Ikuforiji said.

Ikuforiji noted that ” We should also bear it in mind that it is only through purging ourselves of all acts that are contrary of the will of Allah and refraining from activities that can endanger our wellbeing and those of others that can speed up the emancipation of our country Nigeria.”

The Speaker appealed to muslims and all Nigerians generally to keep on praying for the sustenance of democracy and the corporate entity of the Nigerian nation.
