US speaks following impeachment of Suk-Yeol, commits to work with President Han Duck-Soo

WASHINGTON – The United States has reiterated its commitment to the Republic of South Korea, stressing that the U.S.-ROK alliance remains ironclad.

The United States issued the statement following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-Yeol for imposing martial law on the Republic of South Korea to bring to an end decades of democracy in Korea.

The move was resisted by Parliament, forcing him to recant. He  was impeached by parliament today and Han Duck Soo, who was Prime Minister was made Acting President.

In a statement, Spokesman Department of State, Matthew Miller said the United States reiterates its support for the Republic of Korea (ROK), its citizens and democratic processes, and the rule of law.

” Our commitment to the U.S.-ROK Alliance is ironclad.

” In recent years, that Alliance has made enormous strides, and the United States looks forward to partnering with the ROK on achieving further progress.

“We stand ready to continue this work with Acting President Han Duck-soo and the ROK government to advance our mutual interests and shared values”, the statement said.
