WASHINGTON, U.S – The United States has designated Amaq News and Al Hayat Media Centre as terrorists organisations. In a statement by
Department of State, the US described the agencies as the official mouthpiece of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria(ISIS).
This is based on ammendedment to the Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) under Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, and as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) under Executive Order 13224.
“Amaq News Agency and Al Hayat Media Center are two media wings of ISIS. Amaq News Agency is part of the terrorist organization’s propaganda apparatus, and is used for claiming responsibility for ISIS or ISIS-inspired attacks, spreading terrorist messages online, and recruitment. Al Hayat Media Center is ISIS’s multilingual media outlet and is also used for recruitment purposes”, the US said.
It added that today’s actions notify the U.S. public and the international community that Amaq News Agency and Al Hayat Media Center are aliases of ISIS, stressing that terrorism designations expose and isolate organizations and individuals, and deny them access to the U.S. financial system.
It noted that designations can assist the law enforcement activities of the United States and other governments.
