ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – The United States has condemned attack on former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan and his supporters.

Gun shots were fired at the former PM and his supporters in a truck conveying him and his supporters to Islamabad to demand for a snap election at the Punjab Province.

He is said to be fine and recuperating in local hospital, his party spokesman was quoted as saying

At least five people, including Imran Khan, were injured in the gun shots at the rally. We gathered that the lone attacker was arrested immediately but his identity has not been ascertained. Besides, no group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

In condemning the incident, the United State wished Khan and others injured in the incident a thorough recovery, while offering condolences to those killed/

In the statement, Secretary of State, Antony Blinken said violence has not place in politics and called on parties to refrain from violence, harassment and intimidation.

“ We wish Imran Khan and all others who were injured a quick and thorough recovery, and we offer our condolences to the family of the individual who was killed.

“Violence has no place in politics, and we call on all parties to refrain from violence, harassment, and intimidation”, he said, adding that the United States is deeply committed to a democratic and peaceful Pakistan, and “we stand with the Pakistani people”.
