LAGOS, Nigeria – The United Kingdom, Canada and Australia have recognized Palestine as an independent state to exist side by side Israel as part of the two states solution.

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer made known the recognition of Palestine in a video he posted on his X.

As he puts it, “today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two state solution, the United Kingdom formally recognises the State of Palestine” he said adding that the hope of a sovereign state of Palestine is fading but we cannot let the light go off”, he said.

He said this step is not to reward Hamas but to reward peace and pave the way for negotiations for two states solution so that Israel and Palestine can leave together in peace.

He said he has sanctioned Hamas in the past but that he has approved other sanctions for new set of Hamas leaders.

He said the step he has taken will lead to reform of the Palestinian Authority, PA and Palestine without a future for Hamas in government and in security.

He said it is now two years since the event of October 7th 2023.

While condemning the act he said the violence in Palestine is man made where children and others are killed adding that the toll of death is now unprecedented in human history.

He called on Israel to open up the crossing to allow aid to go into Palestine.

He also condemned Hamas for its failure to release the captives who now live in terrible situation emancipated.

He said Britain recognized Israel 75 years ago and now he is recognizing Palestine.

“Since 1947, Canada has supported a two-state solution – Palestine and Israel living side by side in peace and security. Today, Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of lasting peace in the Middle East”, Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney said.
