LONDON – COLD-BLOODED killer who stabbed an innocent man to death before fleeing to America has been convicted of murder.
Devon Brown, 30, cornered 46-year-old Nigerian, Okechukwu Iweha in Tottenham after wrongly believing the bike he was cycling had been stolen.
The Old Bailey heard how Brown pulled a massive blade from his waistband and plunged it into Mr. Iweha several times—all while the victim’s hands were still resting on his handlebars.
In chilling CCTV footage shown to the court, Brown and his pal Leandro Kaienga, 29, were seen walking away from the scene, leaving Mr. Iweha to die alone on the pavement.
As the victim lay dying, Kaienga was seen callously kicking away the dying man’s shoe and picking up his own hat before the pair vanished.
The duo then launched a desperate cover-up, dumping their blood-stained clothes and the murder weapon in a bin. The items were later incinerated, but their plot to escape justice failed when forensic teams found Brown’s DNA on a nearby car.
The morning after the brutal April 2024 attack, Brown hopped on a plane and fled the country.
However, following a “relentless” investigation by the Met Police, he was tracked down thousands of miles away in Dallas, Texas.
He was extradited back to the UK in January to face the music.
Yesterday, Brown was found guilty of murder and perverting the course of justice. Kaienga was cleared of murder but found guilty of perverting the course of justice.
Detective Inspector Mark Johnson slammed the “senseless” attack, saying:
”The defendants took the life of a much-loved man and showed no remorse in the minutes, hours, and days that followed.”
Emergency crews, including a helicopter surgical team, had battled to save Mr. Iweha, but he was pronounced dead at the scene from a fatal stab wound to the chest.
Brown and Kaienga are due to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 19 December
