TURF MOOR, Burnley, Lancashire — Turf Moor, one of football’s oldest and most hallowed grounds, was the stage for a dramatic five-goal Premier League thriller yesterday, but it proved to be a theatre of nightmares for the home fans.

A sensational performance from Fulham’s Harry Wilson, who bagged a goal and two assists, condemned Burnley to a scarcely believable seventh consecutive Premier League defeat, leaving the historic stadium utterly deflated.

The atmosphere at Turf Moor, a venue steeped in history, started electric as the Clarets faithful desperately willed their side on.

However, the venerable old ground quickly turned anxious as the hosts’ defensive frailties were ruthlessly exposed.

The scoring frenzy began early when the Welsh Wizard, Wilson, delivered a wicked corner that Emile Smith Rowe poked home in the 9th minute.

While Lesley Ugochukwu momentarily lifted the spirits of the home crowd in the 22nd minute—getting the equalizer and causing Turf Moor to briefly erupt—parity was short-lived.

Just nine minutes later, Turf Moor was silenced again. Wilson, the man of the match, controlled a lofted ball and delivered a perfect cross for Calvin Bassey to nod past the home keeper. The travelling Fulham faithful in the away end of the historic stadium were ecstatic.

The second half saw Burnley push hard, but it was Fulham who delivered the killer blow. Wilson, on fire all afternoon, curled a brilliant finish past Martin Dúbravka in the 58th minute, making it 3-1 and seemingly ending the contest.

Oliver Sonne grabbed a late consolation goal in the 86th minute, which got the Turf Moor crowd roaring for a frantic final few minutes, but it was too little, too late.

The result marks a significant moment for Fulham, who claimed their first win at the ground in nearly 74 years, a fact that adds a cruel twist of history to Burnley’s current plight.

For Scott Parker’s Clarets, walking off the pitch at their beloved Turf Moor to boos after an unprecedented seventh straight loss confirms a crisis of epic proportions at the Lancashire club.

The pressure is now immense on Parker to turn things around before the hallowed turf becomes synonymous with relegation.
