AREPO, Ogun, Nigeria – At least one person has been confirmed dead as a truck conveying maize (a mobile silo) crashed on the Lagos Ibadan expressway just by Journalist Estate, Arepo, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The truck, we gathered was heading towards Ibadan and just after the Journalists Estate and before Punch Newspaper  veered off the road and lost balance before crashing to the floor and in the process crushed one of the men, identified as a middle aged man of Hausa extraction,  a member of the community dwelling underneath the bridge just before Punch Newspaper.

The driver of the vehicle and his passenger however survived the accident but they were said to have secured minor injuries.

An eye witness told our correspondent that the man, was defecating along the road when the accident occurred. He could be seen underneath the truck with his head covered.

“You can see his head covered under the truck. He was defecating when the truck fell on him. His son has come here and wailing, his wife was also here and she has been crying uncontrollably”, one of the eye witness told our correspondent.

The accident on the Ibadan bound side of the expressway has forced many vehicles to drive in the opposite direction, leading to heavy traffic along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway and the only exit leading into the Journalists Estate.

As at the time of filling this report, officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, TRACE and the police were on the scene of the accident still contemplating how to move the truck away. However, the truck only blocked a minor part of the road.

The accident has however not hindered vehicles heading to Ibadan, Abeokuta or any other destination from passing except to slow down when approaching the scene.
