October 09, 2015- Senator representing, Ogun East Constituency, Senator Buruji Kashamu has lost his seat in the Senate.
The election Petition Tribunal annulled the election acclaimed to have been won by by the billionaire Senator and ordered a rerun within 90-days.
The tribunal ruled that there were regularities in the election that took Kashamu to the Senate.
The tribunal also annulled the election of Honourable Adekoya Adesegun, a member of House of Representatives from Ijebu East /Ijebu North /Ogun waterside and five others in the state house of assembly over irregularities in the last elections.
Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Prince Dapo Abiodun had challenged Kashamu’s victory at the tribunal, claiming that Kashamu was not validly elected.
He sought for an order to declare him the winner of the Ogun East Senatorial seat.
While delivering the judgment, Justice Tobi Ebimowei said that there were some irregularities during the election.
Ebimowei disclosed that Ijebu Ode local government area was the only local government out of the nine in Ogun East that election results were not cancelled because the irregularities were minimal.
“We have to cancel in other local government because they were many anomalies and irregularities in local government such as Ijebu North,Ijebu East,Sagamu,Ikenne and Odogbolu,”the judge said.
He ruled that based on evidence,37,008 votes were unlawful on grounds of proven irregularities and that the total valid and lawful votes for the first respondent after the deduction and adjustment is now 75,856 compared to 99,540 declared by INEC and ordered a re-run.
