AC Milan and Nigeria star Samuel Chukwueze in mourning after death of his mother

NIGERIA’S football community has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Mrs Sarah Chukwueze, the mother of Super Eagles and AC Milan star Samuel Chukwueze.
The tragic news was confirmed early Thursday morning by the winger’s siblings, Princess and David, who shared the heartbreaking update across social media. It is understood the family matriarch passed away following a brief illness.
The loss comes as a devastating blow to the former Villarreal man, who has frequently cited his mother as the primary inspiration behind his rise to the top of European football.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expressed their deep “sadness” at the news, noting that the national team is currently reeling from a string of personal tragedies.
The death of Mrs Chukwueze comes just days after the passing of the father of Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi.
NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, paid tribute to the influential role Sarah played in Samuel’s career.
”We are aware that Mrs Sarah Chukwueze was a vital and supportive presence in the lives of her children,” Sanusi said.
“Samuel has always, at every opportunity, acknowledged his mother’s influence on his professional development.”
Messages of condolence have begun pouring in from across the footballing world for the 26-year-old attacker.
Dr Sanusi added: “We pray that God will grant her eternal rest, and also grant those she has left behind, including Samuel and his siblings, the fortitude to bear the big loss.”
Chukwueze, known for his lightning pace and skill, is expected to take a leave of absence to be with his family in Nigeria during this difficult time.
