BERLIN – Young singles in Germany are increasingly forgoing alcohol on a first date and meeting for cultural activities instead of in a restaurant, according to the annual review by the dating app Tinder.

According to the report, mentions such as “picnic,” “karaoke” and “museums” have increased as requests for dates in the profiles of users aged 18 to 25: “Classic dinner dates in restaurants and even alcohol are out.”

Seventy-two per cent of users said they only drink occasionally or even not at all on a date, the report added.

According to the evaluation for 2022, young singles are placing more and more importance on social and political attitudes. According to the company, topics such as climate change, heating costs, feminism and mental health were among the top five most frequently mentioned interests this year.

According to Tinder, all profiles of its users aged 18 to 25 were analysed for the data. This age group is the app’s main target group worldwide. They make up half of all members, a spokeswoman said.

Tinder was launched in September 2012. The app made so-called swiping a mass phenomenon. Users see profiles with photos and info near them: If they like someone, they swipe to the right; if they don’t like someone, they swipe to the left. If both people like each other, a so-called match is created.

According to the operating company, the app has already been downloaded more than 530 million times and has led to more than 75 billion matches.

The app belongs to the tech company Match Group, which offers other apps such as OkCupid, Hinge, Pairs and OurTime, with headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

According to its own information, Tinder is available in 190 countries and more than 40 languages.t added the club has set “standards in the history of German football. It’s a vibrant club with a magnificent fan culture, an exciting team and unbelievable potential.”
