Timta Dead, Mamza, Askirama Rescued from Boko Haram

Nigerian military Friday gave a good account of itself when it deployed troops in hot chase of Boko Haram who had abducted three emirs, Emir of Gwoza Alhaji Idrisa Timta, Emir of Uba, Alhaji Ismaila Mamza and Emir of Askira, Alhaji Abdullahi Ibn Mohammadu Askirama.

In the ensuing melee, the Nigerian troops rescued Mamza and Askirama but Timta was killed in the encounter. In a statement, Director of Army Information, Mr. Chris Olukolade said the body of the emir of Gwoza was recovered.

He said troops are currently on aggressive patrols along the entire routes with a view to apprehend the perpetrators and keep the area safe.

He said the military has also arrested 23 members of an armed gang terrorizing the region adding that the suspects including a drug dealer have been apprehended from their hideouts in Bukuru, Jos. He said all the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation before they will be handed over for prosecution. See full test of statement below

A band of terrorists today attacked a convoy of the Emirs of Gwoza, Uba and Askira who were travelling to Gombe for the funeral of the late Emir of Gombe. Troops deployed in Garkida responded to the attack. The Emirs of Uba and Askira were secured while the body of Emir of Gwoza who died in the attack has been recovered. Troops are currently on aggressive patrols along the entire route with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and keeping the area safe.

Meanwhile, raids carried out by troops of the Special Task Force operating in the north-central part of the country have led to the arrest of 23 members of armed gangs terrorizing the region. The suspects including a hard drugs supplier were apprehended during raids on camps and criminal hideouts located in Bukuru, Jos South and Barkin Ladi general areas. All the suspects are currently undergoing preliminary investigation before they will be handed over to appropriate prosecuting agency.
