Jordan – Not less than three US soldiers have been killed in a shooting incident at a military base in Jordan.
In a statement announcing the demise of the soldiers, Pentagon Press Secretary Peter Cook said the soldiers were on a training mission in Jordan, adding that initial reports is that the soldiers came under fire while their vehicle was entering the Jordanian military base.
He said the US is working closely with the government of Jordan to determine exactly what happened.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of these service members”, he said adding that more information on the incident will be provided in due course.
“We are saddened to report that three U.S. service members were killed today in a shooting incident at a Jordanian military base. The three service members were in Jordan on a training mission, and the initial report is that they came under fire as they were entering the facility in vehicles.
“We are working closely with the government of Jordan to determine exactly what happened. Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of these service members. We will provide more information as appropriate”, he said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Defense has announced the death of two soldiers who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
They are Capt. Andrew D. Byers, 30, of Rolesville, North Carolina, and Sgt. 1st Class Ryan A. Gloyer, 34, of Greenville, Pennsylvania, died Nov. 3 in Kunduz, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained while engaging enemy forces.
Byers and Gloyer were assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado, the statement said.
