December 15, 2014 – Three people were today killed when the Australian special forces stormed the Lindt Chocolate Café in Sydney where a gun man held over 100 people.
The siege lasted for more than 16 hours with the hostage taker identified as Man Haron Monis, showing writing in Arabic proclaiming that there is only one God.
The gun men was killed along with two of the hostages.
The hostage taker was a Muslim born in Iran and is currently facing charges of sexual assault including accessory to the murder of his wife.
It was quite a dramatic moment as Australian special forces initially attacked the café with grenade before storming he area. Some of the hostages were also injured in the melee but the intervention has brought to a dramatic finish scene of horror in the café.
Monis had embarked on solo protest shortly after he was released from prison alleging that he was tortured under custody, appearing in most cases in the public with chains. His case in the court was reportedly thrown out three days before hostage incident in Sydney.
