TEHRAN – Assembly of Experts has elected Mojtaba Khamenei as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He was elected following assassination of the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei when the Israeli and American fighter jets rained bombs on his compound in Tehran.
In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Middle East, the ultra-conservative Assembly of Experts reportedly bowed to intense pressure from the terrifying Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) to name Mojtaba Khamenei as the next man in charge.
The 55-year-old son of Ali Khamenei, was chosen during a high-stakes, behind-closed-doors meeting, according to sources speaking to Iran International.
For years, Mojtaba has been the “Shadow King” of Tehran, wielding immense power from the wings while avoiding the public eye. But insiders claim the IRGC—the regime’s elite military wing—decided to stop playing games.
Fearing a total collapse of the Islamic Republic following the martyrdom of his 85-year-old father, the Guards reportedly “demanded” the appointment to ensure their own grip on power remains iron-clad.
Critics say the move betrays the very foundations of the 1979 Revolution, which sought to end hereditary rule under the Shah.
Now, it seems Tehran has simply replaced one royal family with another—this time in turbans.
”This isn’t an election; it’s a coronation,” one analyst warned. “The Guards want a puppet they can control, and Mojtaba is their man.”
The secret vote comes as the regime faces a crumbling economy, boiling public anger, and a high-stakes standoff with Israel and the West.
Who is Mojtaba Khamenei? He is the second son of Ali Khamenei. He is deeply embedded in the regime’s security apparatus and has long been suspected of managing his father’s massive financial empire and ties to the IRGC.
The Assembly of Experts: An 88-member body of Islamic jurists is theocratically responsible for electing the Supreme Leader. In reality, they are heavily vetted by the regime to ensure total loyalty.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps isn’t just a military; it’s a political and economic behemoth. They view a Mojtaba succession as the safest way to protect their billions in assets and military dominance.
