CHIANG RAI, Thailand – After 17 days in the cave, the authority in Thailand have rescued all 12 boys who are footballers from Wild Boars Football Team and their coach even as many have applauded what has been described as a heroic act. The boys were rescued in very difficult situation even as many doubted the possibility of rescuing all the boys alive, following the death of Thai Navy trained diver Thai navy diver, Saman Gunan, who died in the caves on Friday, while returning from a mission to provide the group with air tanks when he ran out of oxygen.




Two of the boys, in the Wild Boar Football Team are said to be down with lungs infection even though local sources say they doing well in the hospital where they are kept. We gathered that the road leading to the cave has been opened for normal traffic.

The first of the boys were brought out on Sunday but the last of the group were only freed on Tuesday evening.

The 12 members of the Wild Boar Football Team got stuck in the cave 23 June when heavy rains caused flooding and cut off their route in and out of the Tham Luang cave system in the province of Chiang Rai. The boys aged between 11 and 17 visited the cave on excursion with their coach but got stucked.

The first eight boys to be rescued – on Sunday and Monday – are still in hospital but said to be in good mental and physical health. They have undergone X-rays and blood tests, and will remain under observation in hospital for at least seven days.

Confirming the completion of the rescue operation, the Thai Navy Seals Facebook page announced: “All 12 Wild Boars and coach have been extracted from the cave. All are safe.”

Families in Chiang Rai have gathered at the hospital to watch the boys through the glass door but were yet to be given access to them. Some relatives who visited the hospital in the province said they couldn’t believe it, others said they had never lost hope.
