LONDON, UK – A TEENAGER has been charged with a terrorism offence after he was allegedly busted at Gatwick Airport trying to fly out to join the savage Islamic State (IS) terror group in Syria.
Chafik Aziz, 18, of Wallington, Sutton, was dramatically arrested by counter-terror cops at the airport last week.
He is accused of preparing acts of terrorism by attempting to leave the UK and link up with the ISIS death cult in the war-torn country.
Counter Terrorism Policing London confirmed Aziz was charged on Tuesday, November 11, with an offence under Section 5(1)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The charge alleges that between July 1, 2025, and November 5, 2025, he “engaged in conduct in preparation for giving effect to his intention, namely attempted to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State.”
The operation saw officers first arrest the 18-year-old on Tuesday, November 4, at Gatwick.
He was initially held on suspicion of being a member of a proscribed organisation, but was re-arrested the next day under terror laws.
Detectives successfully applied for a warrant of further detention at Westminster Magistrates’ Court to hold the suspect until the 11th.
Following further enquiries and liaison with the Crown Prosecution Service, charges were authorised against Aziz.
He has been remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, November 12.
