ABUJA, Nigeria – The Supreme Court of Nigeria has held that Governor Abdullahi Sule is the duly elected governor of Nasarawa State.
The election petition tribunal had sacked Governor Sule and declared David Ombugadu, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP as winner of the March 18, 2023 election.
But the appeal court reinstated Sule and held that the tribunal wrongly relied on the evidence of eight of the PDP witnesses, whose statements on oath were not front-loaded alongside the petition.
In the lead judgement read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the court held that the appeal lacks merit.
