CHINA has sensationally accused the United States of “dangerous and irresponsible” behavior after Washington ramped up its military presence in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a stinging rebuke issued from Beijing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun warned that the American-led blockade risks “aggravating tensions” and could shatter a fragile regional ceasefire.

The diplomatic spat comes as the US military bolsters its deployment in the world’s most vital oil chokepoint. Beijing claims the move is a direct threat to international shipping.

”The US side’s stepped-up military deployment and targeted blockade are dangerous and irresponsible,” Guo Jiakun told reporters.

He warned the maneuvers could:

Undermine the current fragile ceasefire.
Jeopardize the security of navigation for global trade.

Fuel further instability across the Middle East.

China is now urging all parties to “honor the ceasefire” and return to the negotiating table to restore normal passage through the Strait as soon as possible.

Why the Strait of Hormuz Matters

The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most important oil artery. Located between Oman and Iran, it connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The Oil Factor: Roughly 20% of the world’s total oil consumption passes through this narrow waterway every single day.

The Tensions: The US has historically maintained a “freedom of navigation” policy in the region, often leading to high-stakes standoffs with local powers.

The China Connection: As a massive importer of Middle Eastern crude, China is hypersensitive to any military activity that could see the taps turned off or shipping insurance rates skyrocket.
