REMO STARS 1-1 KUN KHALIFAT
BY SCM SPORT REPORTER
THE NIGERIAN “Sky Blue Stars” were left thanking their lucky stars last night as a late wonder-strike saved them from a humiliating home defeat.
In a clash that saw the Remo Stars forced away from their Ikenne fortress due to league sanctions, the title hopefuls looked more like falling stars for much of the evening.
They were stunned in just the 6th minute when Kun Khalifat’s Ebetomame Oghenetega pounced on a defensive horror-show to poke the visitors ahead.
For 70 minutes, the Kun Khalifat “underdogs” parked the bus and threatened to pull off the shock of the season.
Remo Stars, led by coach Daniel Ogunmodede, threw everything including the kitchen sink at the Khalifat goal, but found themselves frustrated by a dogged backline and their own wayward finishing.
Fabian Nworie thought he’d found the leveller in the 67th minute, but his header whistled past the post to the groans of the Ibadan crowd.
BOLT FROM THE BLUE
But just as the lights seemed to be fading on Remo’s afternoon, Ahmed Akinyele stepped up to become the hero.
With 79 minutes on the clock, the midfield star picked up the ball 30 yards out and unleashed a thunderbolt that screamed into the top corner.
It was a goal worthy of any stage in the world—a true “Star” moment that spared the blushes of the home side.
The draw leaves Remo Stars struggling to find their rhythm in the NPFL standings, while Kun Khalifat will head home feeling they were minutes away from a historic scalp.
