VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS – Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC has appointed Mr. Chukwuma (Chuma) Nwokocha as its substantive Group Chief Executive, effective October 2, 2025, following the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.
The appointment brings a permanent leader to the helm after Dr. Adekunle Adedeji served a transitional period as Acting Chief Executive. Dr. Adedeji will return to his role as Executive Director/Chief Finance and Value Management Officer of the Company.
Mr. Nwokocha is a highly experienced banking executive and chartered accountant, bringing over three decades of leadership experience from across Africa.
His background includes significant board-level and Chief Executive roles within leading financial institutions, notably serving as the Chief Executive of Standard Bank, SA (the Mozambican subsidiary of the Standard Bank Group).
His expertise covers retail and corporate banking, as well as mergers and acquisitions, areas the Board believes will be key in driving the Group’s future strategy.
Commenting on the appointment, Mrs. Sola David-Borha, the Chairman of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, expressed the Board’s enthusiasm, noting Mr. Nwokocha’s “strong track record in board governance, financial oversight, strategic transformation as well as regulatory engagement.”
The Chairman also acknowledged the crucial leadership provided by Dr. Adedeji during the transition. “It is worthy of mention that under Dr. Adedeji’s leadership, the Group recorded its best financial performance since inception,” Mrs. David-Borha stated.
She also highlighted the successful completion of the Group’s Rights Issue Programme, which ensured the banking subsidiary met the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalization requirements well ahead of the March 31, 2026 deadline.
The Board concluded that they are confident Mr. Nwokocha’s leadership will be “instrumental in driving the growth strategy of Stanbic IBTC Group into the future.” Stanbic IBTC Holdings PLC is a member of the Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets.
