CHELSEA 3 – 0 WOLVES
LONDON – Chelsea secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight, with the famous Stamford Bridge roaring its approval as the Blues fired themselves temporarily into second place in the Premier League table.
Under the lights of their iconic West London home, Enzo Maresca’s side eventually found their rhythm after a goalless first half where the visitors’ interim staff had set up a stubborn defence.
The Blues, playing in front of their faithful at The Bridge, broke the deadlock shortly after the restart when Malo Gusto netted his first goal for the club. The momentum shifted decisively to the home side’s favour, and the crowd in SW6 sensed a rout.
The floodgates fully opened later in the second half. João Pedro doubled the lead, firing home from close range to make it 2-0 and ease any lingering tension around the ground.
Fittingly, a third goal arrived courtesy of Pedro Neto, who continued his stellar form, sending the home support at Stamford Bridge into raptures.
The result is a bitter pill for a managerless Wolves side, who struggled to offer any real threat in their visit to West London.
They remain rooted to the foot of the table and must now regroup during the international break.
For Chelsea, the three points ensure their beloved Stamford Bridge remains a fortress against the strugglers and keeps their European push firmly on track.
The victory, played out in the heart of London, was exactly what the doctor ordered for Maresca after a mixed week, proving that The Bridge truly is the stage for their best performances.
