South Korea Executes Minister for Sleeping on Duty

May 14, 2015 – Defense Minister of South Korea, Hyon Yong Chol has been executed for insubordination and lack of respect for President Kim Jong Un, nknews.org quoted a National Intelligence Service (NIS) representative as saying.

But the BBC reported that Hyon Yong Chol was executed for sleeping at a public event attended by the President and failed to carry out instructions.

We gathered that MPs were told that the affected officer was killed on 30th  April by anti-aircraft fire in front of an audience of hundreds, the Yonhap news agency has reported.

Kim Jong Un who is 32, is known for defiant behaviours.

In Dec. 12, Kim Jong-un executed his uncle and his close allies for “acts of treachery to consolidate his hold on power.

Korea State news agency was also quoted as saying that an “Extensive executions have been carried out for relatives of Jang Song-thaek. All relatives of Jang have been put to death, including even children,” the agency reported.

In 2013, he was reported to have ordered the execution of two aides after they reportedly failed to respond immediately to a request to hand over a profitable business to the military.

In May, 2014, Kim Jong-un ordered his aunt, Kim Kyong Hui to be poisoned.
