AWKA, Anambra – The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Soludo, has approved the release of N6.154 billions as counterpart funds for the State’s Universal Basic Education (UBE) matching grants for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024.

The State Chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, disclosed this to journalists in Awka on Friday.

According to Dr. Nwadinobi, the funds released by the Anambra State Government will enable the state to access an equivalent amount from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

She stated that, as a result of this development, UBEC will provide an additional N12.308 billions to support a new round of UBE intervention projects.

“The projects to be executed include the construction of new classrooms, renovation of dilapidated ones, supply of furniture, and installation of water and sanitation facilities in basic education schools (primary and junior secondary) across the state.

“The funds will also be used for the provision of perimeter fencing, information and communication technology equipment, agricultural education tools, and sports facilities to enhance teaching and learning in our school environments,” she added.

She commended the governor for his unwavering support of the board and his consistent commitment to improving education service delivery in the state.
