MONROVIA, Liberia – Former World Footballer of the Year, Weah, George Manneh(51) today mustered enough votes to win the run-off election in the Liberia Presidential election.




According to the Nationa Electoral Commision of Liberia by Thursday evening, the combined ticket of Weah and his running mate, Howard-Tarlor, Jewel C of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) polled a total vote of 720, 023 about 61.5 percent of total vote cast to defeat Boakai, Joseph Nyuma and his runnung mate Nuquay, Emmanuel James, all of the Unity Party, (UP).

Boakai, Joseph Nyuma and his runnung mate Nuquay, Emmanuel James polled a total vote of 451,088 votes, about 38.5 percent of the total votes cast. Weah scored the highest votes in all the electoral district.

“My fellow Liberians, I deeply feel the emotion of all the nation. I measure the importance and the responsibility of the immense task which I embrace today. Change is on,” Weah wrote on Tweeter as soon as the results were published.

NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya said in a press conference Thursday that the final election results would “hopefully” be announced on Friday.

Meanwhile Freetown has been thrown into a frenzy as many stormed the street in wild jubilation.George Weah 51, won the first round of the election – but not by enough to avoid a run-off vote.
