THE Sky Blue Stars are back in the galaxy of winners. In a high-octane encounter at the Remo Stars Stadium on Sunday, Remo Stars proved they still have the “star power” to dominate the NPFL, coming from behind to dismantle a stubborn Kwara United 3-1.
While the visitors from Ilorin arrived looking to play the role of party-poopers, they ended up eclipsed by a clinical second-half display that sent the home fans into orbit.
Early Shock
The “Harmony Boys” of Kwara United didn’t come to Ikenne just to make up the numbers. In the 34th minute, Ibrahim Yahaya silenced the home crowd, ghosting into the box to finish off a slick cutback from Junior Aimufua. For a moment, it looked like the Stars were falling.
The Response
But true stars shine brightest in the dark. Just four minutes later, the comeback began. Ahmed Akinyele rose like a rocket to head home the equalizer, restoring parity at 1-1 and sending the teams into the tunnel with everything to play for.
Kwara had a golden chance to regain the lead before the break, but Ini Emmanuel Okon’s penalty miss proved to be the turning point that the home side needed.
Clinical Finish
The second half belonged to the boys in blue. Remo Stars asserted their dominance, pinning the visitors back with relentless pressure. The breakthrough finally came in the 70th minute when Haruna Hadi found the net with a strike that had “class” written all over it.
With Kwara United reeling, Victor Mbaoma put the result beyond doubt just three minutes later. His well-taken goal made it 3-1, sealing a vital three points that moves Remo Stars up the table and leaves Kwara United rooted to the bottom of the standings.
On a day where the NPFL spotlight was firmly on Ikenne, it was Remo who lived up to their name. The Stars didn’t just come out—they exploded.
