LAGOS, Nigeria – A VILE stepdad who repeatedly defiled his 11-year-old stepdaughter in sickening night-time attacks has been caged for 14 years.
Okada (motorbike taxi) rider Mathew Olateju, 44, confessed to the horrific abuse in Nigeria after initially pleading innocent to the charges.
He admitted he carried out the appalling assaults when the victim’s mother was out and even saw blood on the girl ‘on several occasions’.
Justice Rahman Oshodi slammed Olateju with the sentence yesterday at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Lagos.
The twisted step-parent was arrested way back in February 2020. Despite pleading ‘not guilty’ at his first appearance, the weight of evidence led him to admit his vile crimes.
A damning medical report revealed the 11-year-old victim suffered a “whitish, foul-smelling vaginal discharge, redness in her vagina” and shocking evidence of “2cm penetration in her anus, confirming sexual abuse”.
During the brutal ordeal, Olateju also regularly beat the victim’s mother after she confronted him for bringing another woman home for sex.
Plea Bargain Sparks Reduced Sentence
Justice Oshodi heard the shocking evidence, which included testimony from the victim’s mother and a local who noticed scars from a beating.
But Olateju, through his lawyer O.C. Stanley, entered a plea bargain with the prosecution in November 2025.
The judge noted that while the sickening crime usually attracts a life sentence, the deal allowed for the reduced jail time.
Pleading for leniency, Stanley claimed the convict had “learnt his lesson and was ready to contribute positively to society.”
The judge was having none of it, caging the scumbag for 14 years and ordering his name to be permanently registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offenders Register.
