BEIJING has launched a blistering attack on Washington, claiming Chinese business leaders are being subjected to “harsh treatment,” including marathon interrogations and forced deportations upon arrival in the United States.
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issued a stern warning today, alleging that its citizens are being unfairly targeted by American border officials.
According to Beijing, the crackdown includes:
Long-drawn-out interrogations lasting hours.
Arbitrary detentions at airports and border crossings.
Forced returns, with businessmen being put back on planes despite holding valid visas.
‘Violating Rights’
A spokesperson for the MFA claimed these “aggressive” tactics are a direct violation of human rights and are poisoning the well for international commerce.
”These actions seriously damage the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese personnel,” the Ministry stated.
Beijing further warned that the current climate is “hurting business ties” between the world’s two largest economies at a time of global financial uncertainty.
Broken Promises?
The diplomatic row threatens to undo the fragile peace established between the two superpowers.
Beijing argues that the US’s “hostile” border policy flatly contradicts recent agreements made between the two presidents to boost cooperation and stabilize the relationship.
The MFA urged Washington to “stop the harassment” immediately or face a further cooling of relations.
A Cold War for Commerce?
This latest spat comes amid a long-running “tit-for-tat” struggle between the US and China.
Washington has grown increasingly suspicious of Chinese corporate influence, citing concerns over national security and data privacy.
Last year, the US ramped up scrutiny of Chinese tech and finance sectors, while Beijing has retaliated by investigating Western consultancy firms.
This “business battlefield” has left many corporate travelers caught in the crossfire of high-stakes geopolitics.
