March 6, 2015 – At least seven states in Nigeria have been earmarked to benefit from N30 billion agriculture development fund put together by the African Development Bank (ADB).

Among the states are Anambra , Enugu, Kano, Kebbi, Jigawa and Sokoto State.  The fund is meant to promote agriculture in each of the affected states.

Speaking while receiving a delegation of ADB to his office, Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina said the fund will assist in boosting the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in the agricultural sector.

Adesina who also told the ADB team of his intention to contest for President of the ADB said the fund is part of initiative to attract the private sectors to development of agriculture in Nigeria.

He expressed optimism about rapid development of agriculture in Nigeria  adding that every day farmers from various part of Nigeria come to his office in Abuja seeking to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for what he has done in agriculture.

Students of International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) also used the opportunity to present  an award to the minister for  his giant stride in agriculture.
