Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has called on Nigerians from all walks of lives to secure peace which has been won through the blood of fallen heroes by self restraints, brotherliness and love for one another.

Fashola who spoke on Friday at a prayer session at Central Mosque Alausa, Ikeja as part of activities to mark Armed Forces Remembrance Day scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 2014, said that the best way to ensure enduring peace in the country was for citizens to live with restraints.

According to him, resorting to bloodshed to achieve peace was costly and that it would always carry sad memories of lost lives and destruction.

“Peace has been won by a lot of bloodshed of soldiers, officers and men over the years. It is important now that we secure that peace by restraints; by brotherliness, by love for one another, by tolerance and by a common unity of purpose that we seek as a people to live in peace. That way, the work of our security agencies will become less onerous, if we agree to live in peace “,he said.

Fashola explained that the annual Remembrance Day should serve as an opportunity for Nigerians to appreciate the solemn sacrifices made by the armed forces to secure the nation.

“It is also an opportunity to send a message of comfort to children and relatives of fallen officers who have had to make this supreme sacrifice and for all of us to remember to give a hand of help to those families to show our appreciation “he said.
