October 11, 2014 – The South African Football Association has expelled Vice President of the association, Mr. Mwelo Nonkonyane.
He was unanimously expelled from the highest football governing body in South Africa during the annual general meeting of the association today in Johannesburg.
The expulsion is coming just a year after he was suspended in 2013. He is reported to have violated SAFA’s media policies based on what he said about former coach of Bafana Bafana, Mr. Gordon Igesund.
Nonkonyane said Igesund had the mandate to take Bafana Bafana to the finals of the 2014 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, or will have to step down as coach.
His comments infuriated SAFA National Executive Council who did not give such a mandate to the coach.
