ABUJA, Nigeria – The service chiefs that were recently retired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will go home with very generous packages following recent revelations.
For instance, the retired Chief of Defence Staff, CDF will go home with one bullet proof SUV, or equivalent vehicle to be maintained by the service and to be replaced every four years; Peugeot 508 or equivalent back-up vehicle and five(5) domestic aides, made up of two service cooks, two stewards, a civilian gardener, and aide-de-camp/security officer; special assistant of a lieutenant captain/or equivalent, or personal assistant in the rank of a warrant officer or equivalent, nine(9) standard guards of nine soldiers, three service drivers, one service orderly; escorts to be provided by the appropriate military unit/ formation as the need arises; free medical cover in Nigeria and abroad.
The CDS will also retain all military uniforms and accouterments to be worn for appropriate ceremonies as well as personal firearms. However, such firearms shall be retrieved by the relevant services upon the death of the beneficiary.
Besides the service chiefs, the retirement benefits for a Major General in the Army, Rear Admiral in the Navy and Air Vice Marshal in the Air Force who are two star officers are a Peugeot 508, a cook, a steward, two residential guard, one service orderly, one service driver, free medical service in Nigeria and abroad to the tune of $15,000 per year.
For Brigadier General, Commodore and Air Commodore, the retirement benefits are as follows: One Peugeot 408, a service driver, two residential guards, one service orderly and free medical service in Nigeria and abroad to the tune of $10,000 each.
For Colonels, Captains and Group Captains in the Army, Navy and Air Force, the retirement benefits are Peugeot 301 or another car of the same value and free medical service in Nigeria.
The retirement benefits for Major General, Brigadier General, Colonels or equivalent in the Navy and Air Force can however be monitised.
