ILORIN, Kwara – In the efforts to checkmate reckless preaching by some groups in Ilorin, the League of Islamic Scholars (LIS)has tasked the authority of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) to enforce disciplinary action against any erring person irrespective of his status.
This call was made last weekend during IEDPU meeting held at it’s National Secretariat, Geri Alimi, Ilorin, aimed at discussing and finding solutions to contemporary challenges facing the community, where reckless preaching caused disaffection among people in the anccient City.
In their responses, Muslim stakeholders, preachers, and Islamic organizations who appreciated IEDPU’s initiative, describing the program as timely. They also called for the creation of data base for all preachers in Ilorin for easy identification of violators of laid down rules and regulations.
According to them, the IEDPU enforcement of discipline on any scholar who misbehaves, whether on social media or in real-life sermons will restore sanity among them and the entire city.
“To create a Data Bank of all Islamic scholars, Imams and Principals of Islamic schools will enhance coordination and accountability”, they remarked.
Earlier in his opening address, the National President of IEDPU, ACG AbdulMalik Abdulmumini Ayo (rtd) commended Islamic scholars for their dedication and commitment to propagating Islamic values.
He urged them to continue making Ilorin proud through their messages and actions, be upright in their conduct and avoid anything that could embarrass Islam or the Ilorin Emirate, refrain from insulting or abusing each other on social media or in sermons and always follow the Quran and Hadith as guiding principles for their preachings.
Also contributing, the Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Justice S.O. Muhammad (rtd) urged scholars to emulate the morals and values of past Islamic leaders who played key roles in protecting and sensitizing the community through their sermons.
The event was well attended by various stakeholders in the Islamic community and media.
