BERLIN – The sexual misconduct allegations levelled against the German band Rammstein’s singer Till Lindemann is not affecting its sales figures.
Six of their eight studio albums are on the latest Top 100 album charts and have all made significant gains. The most recent album, “Zeit”, rose from 29th place the previous week to 10th in the Official German Charts published on Friday by GfK Entertainment in Baden-Baden.
Predecessor “Rammstein” rose to 20 from 52, the album “Mutter,” released in 2001, made it to 25 from 61. Three other albums by the band are back in the charts. “Reise, Reise” from 2004 is now at number 55, the 2009 release “Liebe ist für alle da” landed at number 57, Rammstein’s first album “Herzeleid” from 1995 secured number 90.
With “Sonne” at number 69, a Rammstein song also made it back into the singles charts.
Recently, several women have raised allegations of improper conduct against Lindemann.
Some say they were allegedly selected and recruited during concerts and asked if they wanted to come to the after-show party.
According to some of the women, sexual acts took place. Lindemann has denied the accusations and hired a lawyer.
“In the social networks, especially on Instagram, Twitter and YouTube, various women made serious accusations against our client,” a statement from his lawyer said.
“It was repeatedly alleged that women at Rammstein concerts were drugged with the help of knockout drops or alcohol to enable our client to perform sexual acts on them. These allegations are without exception untrue.”
Christoph Schneider, the drummer for the German metal band Rammstein, said he has been “deeply shaken” by the allegations made against Lindemann.
“The accusations of the last few weeks have deeply shaken us as a band and me as a human being,” the 57-year-old wrote on Instagram. Till has distanced himself from us in recent years and created his own bubble. With his own people, his own parties, his own projects. That made me sad, definitely.”
He said he believes Lindemann when he says he always intends to give his private guests the best time. “However, the interpretation of the guests and Lindemann apparently differ at time,” Schneider wrote.
According to the reports, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation against Lindemann. If the public prosecutor’s office becomes aware of a suspicion of a criminal offence, it must investigate. Media reports can be the trigger for this.
Until the investigation is completed, the presumption of innocence applies. The record label Universal Music Entertainment has temporarily suspended its marketing and promotional activities for Rammstein.
