COLOMBIAN President Gustavo Petro has sensationally revealed how he was forced to flee for his life across the open ocean to dodge a “hit squad” waiting to shoot down his helicopter.

The 65-year-old leader told a stunned cabinet meeting that he had spent the last 48 hours running for his life after intelligence warned that his planned landing site on the Caribbean coast had been compromised by assassins.

In a dramatic live broadcast from the city of Montería, a visibly shaken Petro confessed: “I have been spending two days not in the arms of love, but escaping from being killed.”

The Great Escape
The drama unfolded on Monday night as the President’s helicopter approached the northern department of Córdoba to address a flooding emergency.

Security chiefs reportedly scrambled the flight path at the final second after discovering that the landing lights at the destination had been intentionally left off—marking a “kill zone” where gunmen were allegedly waiting to open fire.

”We headed out to open sea for four hours,” Petro revealed. “I arrived somewhere we weren’t supposed to go, escaping from being killed.”

The President claimed the plot was orchestrated by a ruthless “drug trafficking junta” that has been hunting him since he took office in 2022.

A Nation on the Brink
The assassination attempt comes at a time of boiling tension in Colombia. President Petro, the country’s first-ever leftist leader, has long claimed he is a target for the “far-right” and powerful drug cartels like the Gulf Clan.

The Trump Factor: Just last week, Petro met with U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

The two leaders reportedly agreed on a “joint manhunt” for the Gulf Clan’s top boss, known as ‘Chiquito Malo.’ This deal has reportedly put a massive bounty on Petro’s head.

Election Violence: Colombia is currently in the grip of a bloody election cycle. Only yesterday, a prominent senator was kidnapped, and security experts warn that drug lords are attempting to “decapitate” the government before the upcoming vote.

History of Hits: Petro has survived multiple alleged plots before, including a reported 2024 attempt involving a missile.

While critics often accuse him of “political theatre,” the heavy military presence and diverted flights on Monday suggest this was the closest he has come to disaster.
