Okays import waivers on electricity metres

ABUJA, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has directed nationwide mass metering of homes in Nigeria as part of efforts to end estimated billing in the country.
In order to achieve this, the president equally approved a one year waiver of import levy on electricity metres so that Nigerians who do not have meters and currently on estimated billings can be supplied metres as early as possible at a reasonable cost.
President Muhammadu Buhari made the revelation this evening on his social media handle.

“President @MBuhari ends estimated Billing; directs nationwide mass metering”, he said on Twitter.

The President made the revelation just as the National Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has said that there is no tariff raise for the poor and vulnerable Nigerians but that DISCOS have been directed to embark on mass metering.
